About Our Projects

Sponsor Trees can offer projects from community based tree planting, chosen area reforestation, fruit tree nurseries, rainforest or island sponsorship. Providing the most benefits direct to the local families are community based projects, where the tree benefits are orientated around the needs of the local communities. The seedlings are often planted on the land of individual families to assist them develop their own sustainable incomes.

With a range of tree planting organizations around developing countries, trees have been sponsored in Honduras, the Philippines, Indonesia, Panama, Haiti and Ethiopia.

Locations of nurseries and types of trees within, will vary depending on fulfilling the maximum benefits considering the time of year, quantities sponsored, climate variations, water supply, availability of seeds and, demand from villagers for crops, nutrition, shelter, fire wood, grazing crops, soil erosion, sunlight protection, aquifer support etc.

Our recommended project would be through one of our favoured partners because they are an NGO who are very closely monitored by Government. They record and check all the families the trees are given to and which families land they are planted within. Each family is given 15-20 trees which is enough to make a difference and help support their lifestyle, allowing them to generate their own much needed extra sustainable income. The Government acknowledges their desperate need for trees, both for environmental and resource requirements and thus have stringent criteria the organisation must comply with. The government also allocates their own land which is most in need of trees for various environmental reasons, and again careful plans have been prepared to support the sustainability, efficiency and success of planting in these areas.

Many other organisations started 2-3 years ago (or less) and with little previous experience other than those provided by external consultants are achieving approximately 50% germination and survival from nurtured seeds.

Our partners in Ethiopia however have been operating tree nurseries for 7 years on a large scale and consistently achieve 85-91% survival rate. This season they have cultivated in excess of 3.5million seedlings across many nurseries and know what trees work well with others to provide natural bio-diversity and eco-system balance, being sustainable.

These trees are planted in the most barren of landscapes where human desperation has cleared areas with currently no natural resources. Unlike most areas which have other uses, these areas will only survive with our help, and these trees. Within areas home to natural forest, are dormant seeds lying in the ground and so for every 50 new trees planted, another 150 or so are likely to grow back.
